Team, Athletic Hall of Fame
 
Criteria of Selection
Player
Must be an alumnus/a of Muhlenberg College or have left the college for a serious reason that is not detrimental to the image of Muhlenberg College.
Must have been considered a superior player when compared to recognized norms, the competition against which the athlete played, and prior and subsequent Muhlenberg athletes playing the same sport(s).
A track relay team or a doubles tennis team shall be considered a "player". Each member of such team shall be an individual inductee. The team will be considered as one of the maximum of five players annually eligible for full membership.
Must have graduated (or left) at least ten (10) years prior to selection to the Athletic Hall of Fame.
 
Coach
Must have demonstrated an unusually high degree of success relative to coaches of the same sport at other schools of equivalent stature.
Should have achieved a win/loss record viewed as highly successful by his or her peers.
Must have coached the same sport for more than one full season and not left the sport or Muhlenberg for reasons detrimental to the image of Muhlenberg College.
Must have left the coaching position but may still be at Muhlenberg College in another capacity, coaching or otherwise.
Honorary Member
Must have made a significant contribution or provided significant support to Muhlenberg College athletics.
 
Team
Must be a specific sport for a specific year (winter sports may span a school year; i.e. men's basketball, 1985-1986). Team must have had an outstanding season in terms of win/loss record and post-season accomplishments or have had some other significant achievement as a team.
Team members include those affiliated with the team; players, coaches and managers. Players are considered those who were on the roster for the final contest of the regular season (including those who could have competed, but were unable to due to injury). Note: The team members (as defined above) are not individual members of the Hall of Fame as a result of this selection.
Ten (10) years must have elapsed since the final contest of the regular season prior to selection to the Athletic Hall of Fame.
 
General
When selecting an individual for membership in the Athletic Hall of Fame, consideration cannot be given to any actions, achievements or recognition outside the specific guidelines. However, when selecting an individual for Honorary Membership, consideration may be given to any partial fulfillment of requisites for the players and coaches
A member of the Athletic Hall of Fame cannot be subsequently or concurrently selected for Honorary Membership.
The sport must have been on the varsity level for at least one season during the individual's period of contribution.
 
Awards

Individual Awards
Each player, coach or honorary inductee will be honored with a picture plaque highlighting his or her athletic achievements and/or contributions to the Muhlenberg College athletics program. The plaque will be displayed in the Hall of Fame in the Life Sports Center's Solar Corridor or other designated place as appropriate.
Each player, coach or honorary inductee will receive a duplicate plaque.
Each player, coach or honorary inductee will receive a personalized Hall of Fame medallion annotated with the following: Never, in all the proud years of Muhlenberg's future, will these names be lost from memory.
Each player, coach or honorary inductee and his or her guest will be guests at the Cardinal & Grey Society Hall of Fame induction dinner or other event so designated by the committee (college).
 
Team Awards
Each team inducted will be honored with a photo plaque highlighting the team's accomplishments. The plaque will be displayed in the Hall of Fame in the Life Sports Center's Solar Corridor or other designated place as appropriate.
All team members will receive a personalized Hall of Fame medallion annotated with the following: Never, in all the proud years of Muhlenberg's future, will these names be lost from memory.
Each team member will be invited (complimentary) to the Athletic Hall of Fame dinner or other event so designated by the committee (college).

 
 
Presentation of the Awards

Individual awards will not be given in absentia. Team awards may be given to those team members not in attendance. Posthumous awards will be presented to a family member at the Athletic Hall of Fame dinner or other event so designated by the committee (college).
If an individual honoree cannot attend the awards ceremony in the year selected, he/she will be so honored at a future ceremony. (team members will not be honored in future years if they cannot attend)

 
 
Membership of the Selection Committee

The committee will be chaired by the Director of Athletics.
The five alumni representatives (below) may not serve on the committee for more than four consecutive years. The individual must then sit-out for one year before being reappointed to the committee.
 
The selection committee will consist of:
The Director of Athletics
Five alumni representatives including at least two members of the Athletic Hall of Fame, of which at least one shall be a female.
The Director of Alumni Relations
The Director of Athletic Communications
The Head Athletic Trainer

 
 
Nomination Procedures

Nominations may be submitted by completing the online nomination form or, in writing to the Alumni Office or the Office of Public Relations by anyone. If possible, the nominator should also submit evidence qualifying the person or team for the honor.
Individuals may not nominate themselves.
The Director of Athletic Communications will provide a complete list of eligible candidates to the committee in advance of the selection committee meeting.
The list of candidates presented to the committee for consideration will meet all selection criteria.
Nominations will be held indefinitely, or can be eliminated from consideration by a two-thirds majority vote of the committee. Nominations may be resubmitted.
 



Selection Procedures

The Selection Committee will meet annually, in March after the nominees have been researched and all information has been distributed to the committee members.
The committee should strive for full attendance at meetings; however, a quorum will exist with six of the committee present. The quorum requirement can be met either in person for by phone conference.
Research on nominees will be distributed to committee members prior to the selection meeting. No nominees will be discussed unless research has been previously distributed.
Annual selection shall be a maximum of five individuals for full membership and one honorary. Teams will be selected on an ad hoc basis when there are nominations. Only one team a year may be selected.
The committee may use any voting or eliminating process that it deems appropriate. Consideration must be given for committee members to have enough time for sufficient review of the candidates and the supporting information prior to the voting procedure. A simple majority of present voting members shall constitute induction (ie 6 of 10, 5 of 9, 5 of 8, 4 of 7, 4 of 6; quorum is 6).

 
 
Revisions

Revisions and/or exceptions to these by-laws may be proposed by any member of the selection committee and will be effective upon a two-thirds vote of the committee. .
